Oriundo is an adults-only retreat ten minutes from Valladolid, set on a stretch of carefully preserved tropical vegetation between Cancún and Mérida. The villas are well and truly removed from everything. They disappear into the vegetation, the bird life is serious, and early morning access to the cenote before the day's visitors arrive is a real highlight. Each is built from local limestone and hardwood, with woven lampshades, bejuco reed chairs and hand-knit textiles throughout, craft that brings the outside in without feeling over decorative. The meliponary connecting guests to the Yucatán's native, stingless melipona bees brings in a tradition that Maya communities have practiced for thousands of years.
