Mexico´s hotel world is closing out 2021 with some exciting openings and rebranding projects, and 2022 is set to follow in a similar fashion with the launch of some outstanding properties from coast to coast. Read on to get a flavor of the new hotels stepping onto the scene!
Casa Silencio – Oaxaca
This one-of-a-kind boutique hotel opened back in September, ensconced in the Valley of Xaaga (meaning Silence) found southeast of Oaxaca City. Set semi-remotely on 9 acres of agave fields and now with 6 beautiful suites, Casa Silencio is both a working mezcal distillery and luxury retreat. The design and materials of the boutique embody a celebration of Oaxaca´s traditional craftsmanship, together with an ideology of self-sustainment.
Banyan Tree – Puebla
Expanding its reach in Mexico, the Banyan Tree has moved into Puebla and taken over management from Azul Talavera, opened in November. Right in the heart of the city´s beautiful historic center, the hotel provides 78 guestrooms and suites within a 19th century building, decorated to honor the traditions of the region. The Ritz-Carlton – Mexico City
After six years of anticipation, the Ritz-Carlton opened it´s doors in October of this year. The swanky hotel forms part of a 58-story building right on the iconic Reforma Avenue, with panoramic views of the verdant Chapultepec Park from all 153 accommodations. A Club Lounge, spa, pool, and fitness center add luxury amenities, with a beautifully elegant restaurant and bar serving Eastern Mediterranean cuisine with a view.
Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection – Riviera Maya
Etéreo is set to open just in time for the holiday season, with reservations available for December 15th ´21 onwards. A 40-minute drive south of Cancun, the resort drifts above protected mangrove forest, with each of the 75-accommodations facing the Caribbean Sea: ethereal, just as its name suggests. Five eateries fuse traditional Mayan and modern Mexican cuisine, and the Auberge Spa invites relaxation through healing rituals, and bodywork on an el fresco floating massage deck.
Garza Blanca Resort & Spa Cancun
Expected to open in February 2022, this all-inclusive beachfront property is located to the northern reaches of Cancun on Playa Mujeres beach. The hotel counts with a modern design and 452 suites, all with private terraces, with a range of options up to 5,300 sq. ft. oceanfront penthouse suites. Amenities include 4 fine-dining restaurants, 6 heated pools, an adults-only rooftop pool, and Spa Imagine. Children will be kept busy at the floating aqua park and Kid´s Club.
Casa Chablé – Sian Ka´an Biosphere Reserve
Formally Mukan, the re-opening of this secluded eco-property is on the horizon for May 2022, with Chablé behind the wheel. Extending south of Tulum, Sian Ka´an is a protected reserve made up of mangroves, water systems and virgin tropical forest. This remote location is part of the allure for those who wish to disconnect and surrender to breathtaking natural surroundings. Unwind in 10 beautiful rooms and villas, and take in nature´s grandeur from 200 meters of beachfront.
Four Seasons Tamarindos – Costa Alegre
With an opening on the horizon for early 2022, Four Seasons prepares to open its fourth resort in Mexico, Tamarindos. The location is stunning; a secluded enclave and natural reserve on Mexico´s rugged Pacific coast, with three swimmable beaches. The resort´s 155 accommodations, including 63 suites, will have access to fabulous amenities featuring three infinity pools, spa, four dining venues and an oceanfront links golf course designed by David Fleming.
Susurros Del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection – Punta Mita
On track for an early 2022 opening, Susurros del Corazón claims it´s place on 33 acres of jungle-backed beachfront, just 10 minutes south of Punta Mita. Auberge Resorts will expand its collection with a new community of residential suites and villas, looking out to a white sand beach and the magnificent Banderas Bay. The complex will boast a beach club, pools, spa, and fitness center.
Margaritaville St. Somewhere – Isla Holbox
This winter, Margaritaville St. Somewhere will open it´s hospitality on the western point of Isla Holbox, Punta Coco. Accepting reservations starting February 2022, guests will soon be able to relax where aquamarine waters ebb and flow on white-sand shores. The resort´s open-air, boho design enjoys over 3,000 ft. of untouched beachfront, with 39 suites, 2 first-rate restaurants, and a dreamy swim-up bar.
Moxy by Marriott – Mexico City
The first Moxy hotel in Mexico is scheduled to open in 2022, with a prime location near the trendy Roma neighborhood in the country´s capital. The millennial traveler-focused brand has plans for 120 cozy accommodations, buzzing communal spaces and a cool rooftop bar overlooking the cityscape. In the spirit of its ´next generation´ target audience, the hotel´s design will embrace an industrial chic look with hi-tech details.
EDITION at Kanai – Riviera Maya
Set within the Kanai development, around 30 minutes north of Playa del Carmen, EDITION hotel is expected to open in 2022. The luxury beachfront property is enveloped by lush tropical foliage, set on a gorgeous stretch of the Mexican Caribbean coast. Design blueprints include 180 guestrooms and suites, as well as six restaurants and bars, a pool, beach club and spa.
Waldorf Astoria – Cancun
The elegant Waldof Astoria Cancun will open to the public on May 1st 2022, with reservations available from November of this year. Situated to the southern side of Cancun, the resort will offer approximately 173 guest rooms and suites, with options to include pet-friendly, oceanfront and Presidential suites. The grounds stretch 100 acres of secluded coastline and will feature five restaurants and bars as well as the Waldorf Astoria Spa, a pool and fitness center.
St. Regis Los Cabos – Quivira, Los Cabos
Slated for completion in fall 2022, the 120-room St. Regis Los Cabos will stand within the Quivera community of Los Cabos, alongside 60 private residences up for sale. The hillside resort development peers over a stretch of sandy beach, with the resort´s clever architecture cascading down over 33 acres and an amazing ocean view. Guests can enjoy high-end facilities including wellness and fitness centers, a spa, pools, and a saltwater lagoon. Golfers should get their clubs ready for the neighboring Jack Nicklaus golf course.
The Conrad – Tulum
Open for reservations entering January 15th, 2022, the Conrad is located around 25 minutes north of Tulum´s archaeological site. The 349-room hotel is well placed for making the most of the Riviera Maya´s activities and attractions, or guests can enjoy the on-site spa, pool, and fitness center. Foodies will love exploring the selection of eleven restaurants and bars, from Aegean cuisine to sushi.
