The St. Regis Punta Mita commits to sustainability through the Green Key responsible tourism program. They practice waste separation in both public and private areas and partner with a collector to recycle PET, aluminum, glass, cardboard, archival materials, and oil. The hotel collaborates with a pig farm to repurpose organic waste and has agreements with HP and two associations for recycling toner, caps, and staples. Internal strategies to reduce waste include eliminating Styrofoam containers and straws, opting instead for corn starch material containers. Suppliers who meet sustainable criteria are prioritized, such as those who provide recyclable or compostable packaging for room amenities and seafood suppliers who follow sustainable fishing practices. The hotel supports bee conservation with Azper Guardian of Life, using wooden boxes with beeswax to attract and safely relocate transient swarms. They also protect the critically endangered hawksbill turtle, allowing guests to participate in a conservation camp in exchange for a donation, which supports the camp’s research and maintenance.
