Today, it is a university city where the same intellectual energy feeds a thriving cultural scene. Each October, El Cervantino international arts festival fills its streets.
Guanajuato was also the birthplace of Diego Rivera and remains known for its majolica pottery. At night, musicians in regal attire lead visitors on singing callejoneadas through the alleyways, turning the historic center into a moving performance.
